Widely used in fresh and salt water for taking samples of hard bottoms such as sand, gravel, consolidated marl or clay, this is a deliberately heavy device for biting deep into the bottom and has proven success at animal recovery. The simple design means it is simple to use. Heavy duty hinges and hinge pin can absorb thousands of bottom impacts. Self-closing scoops have center pivot closing action. When the scoops strike the bottom, their tapered cutting edges penetrate well with very little sample disturbance. An attached underlip wipes the scoop clean of pebbles and cobble that would interfere with closing. By the same token, removable side plates prevent the lateral loss of sample as scoops close. This well-regarded self-closing sampler uses our patented spring-loaded pinch-pin™ that releases when cable or line slackens. A safety pin replaces the pinch-pin™ when not in use to prevent injury. Removable screens on top of each scoop allow water to flow through as it descends. This lessens the frontal shock wave and reduces surface disturbance. Both screens are covered with neoprene rubber flaps that close during retrieval. Choose all stainless steel for severe conditions. Ship wt: 67 lbs. Crane and winch recommended due to working weight. Materials: 316 stainless steel, 18-8 SS fasteners, screen Weight & volume: 27 kg (60 lb); 8.2 Liter Total weight: 27 kg (60 lb) Sample area: 229 x 229 mm (9 x 9”)

This scaled-down sampler gives a whole new meaning to the word “petite.” We mean it can be easily carried by one person in one hand. You may still need good muscle mass, but, since it weighs under 25 pounds, you can use it on a line without the winch and crane recommended for the larger version. Same basic design as the standard Ponar® with stainless-steel construction. Uses 3/16”+ line or 61-B14 cable. Available with or without case. Ship wt: 28 lbs w/ case Materials: 316 stainless steel and/ or plated steel Fasteners, screen: 18-8 stainless steel Weight & volume: 6.8 kg (24 lb) weight; 2.4 Liter volume Total weight: 14 kg (28 lb) Sample area: 152 x 152 mm (6 x 6”) Available separately: 910-G26 plastic carry case

• Classic fresh water sampler in hard bottoms
• Zinc plated to prevent corrosion
• Hot rolled steel and cast iron construction
• Large volume, large sampling area
• Tapered scoop edges
• Safety pin lock
• Clamshell pivot
Since 1930 the Petersen grab has been used in fresh water for collecting macroscopic fauna in sand, gravel, marl, clay or clay combinations. If used in salt water, it must be painted for protection. Since it has been widely used over 6 decades, it is ideal for comparing samples with data collected previously by a Petersen grab. Vent holes permit water to flow through while the grab is being lowered, minimizing diagonal movement as well as reducing the frontal shock wave generated by descent. Jaws close clamshell fashion. We include a safety-pin to prevent the scoops from closing to help prevent injury. The bayonet-style trip mechanism is designed to release only when the sampler is on the bottom and the cable is slack. A deliberately heavy device for biting deep into hard bottoms. Can hold up to 8 removable weights. Operation requires winch and crane due to the working weight. Ship wt: 115 lbs. Materials: Zinc-plated heavy steel Weight: 34 kg (75 lbs.), With extra weights: 42 kg (93 lb.) Volume: 9890 mL Sample area: 305 x 305 mm (12 x 12”) Includes: Shipping crate, 4 weights Extra weights available separately, pack of 2, 9 lbs each.

• Lightweight yet large volume (24 L)
• Rubber flaps over vent screens
• Self-releasing pinch-pin™ for safety
• 0.1 m2 (360 x 280 mm) sample area
• For soft bottoms
This lightweight large grab takes large samples in soft bottoms. Its long lever arms and sharp cutting edges on the bottom of the scoops allow it to cut deep into softer bottoms. The closing mechanism is our patented self-releasing pinch-pin™ attached to the two closing arms which holds the grab open before it hits the bottom. Upon impact, the tension on the chains is released, which releases the pinch-pin™. The chain pulls the closing arms together to close the scoops when the cable is lifted. The top of each scoop is covered with 583 mm stainless steel screen for water to flow through during descent. The screen is covered with a neoprene rubber flap to prevent sample washout during retrieval. Operation requires 1/8” cable (61-B) and winch, not included. Ship wt: 67 lbs. Materials: 316 stainless steel Fasteners: 18-8 stainless steel Chains: Zinc-plated steel Bottom opening: 359 x 279 mm (14-1/8 x 11”) Empty weight: 18.5 kg (41 lb) Full weight: 68 to 90 kg (150 to 200 lb) Volume: 24 L, 0.1 square meter sample area Includes: Shipping crate

• Stainless steel construction
• Scoops overlap to reduce sample loss
• 36 lbs. removable lead weights included
• Acrylic box liner included
• Larger sizes available on custom order
This patented device is designed to take larger samples in harder bottoms more easily and safely than spring-powered grabs. It is especially effective in finely divided muck, clays, mud, ooze, submerged marl, or fine peaty materials. Like a big bruiser, the sole driving force is the box corer’s weight, which can total 49 kg (108 lbs). The body itself weighs about 14 kg (31 lbs) and is augmented by up to 12 extra weights, each weighing 4 kg (9 lbs), securely fastened in two side bins. The heavy duty linkage and scoops dig as deep as the weight will allow. The inside of the box is smooth and free of projections, allowing an acrylic liner to easily slip in and out. Ship wt: 70 lbs
• Box size: 150 x 150 x 230 mm (6 x 6 x 9”)
• All 316 stainless steel with 18-8 fasteners
• Kit includes: plywood carry case; 61-B14 cable; four (4) lead weights (4 kg - 9 lbs); one (1) acrylic liner
